Abstract

English is a language that is widely used in the world, especially in education. One of the things that can be learned from English is figurative language because it is also important to know the uses and types of figurative language due to there is no a dictionary to explain its expressions. Thus, learning by context while looking for figurative language expressions in a movie build better understanding. Moreover, learning related to figurative language theory will be effective if students practice it directly by watching I’m the Best Muslim movie. This research was conducted to find out the types of figurative language and what types of figurative languages are most dominant used in I’m the Best Muslim movie. This research is qualitative descriptive research because the data presented are described. The data source of this research is the sentences spoken by the characters in I’m the Best Muslim movie which contains figurative language. The data were analysed using the theory of Richard E. Mezo and Gorys Keraf. The result showed that the researcher found 17 figurative language expressions and the most dominant types of figurative language used in the film. The researcher found 4 simile expressions, 1 metaphor expression, 2 personification expressions, 3 hyperbole expressions, 1 metonymy expression, 1 synecdoche expression, 1 irony expression, 2 repetition expressions, 2 paronomasia expressions and further simile is a figurative language type that the most dominant used.
